/On Thursday July 5, VHHS celebrated NAIDOC Week by inviting local Ngarrindjeri artists, Phyilis Williams and Cedric Varco for a hands-on workshop throughout lunch break. Students were offered an opportunity to learn traditional dot painting and basket weaving techniques.
We would also like to congratulate VHHS students Jacqueline Wood and Kiara Willis who were both awarded NAIDOC Week Awards at the local Victor Harbor celebrations.
- Jacqueline Wood – Female Youth of the Year is an Aboriginal Youth Action Committee member and a student at Victor Harbor High School. She has volunteered to plan cultural events and activities. She has become a leader of the committee. “Jacquie goes above and beyond and seeks every opportunity to lend a helping hand,” the judges said.
- Kiara Willis – Sportsperson of the Year is well-respected as a leader among her peers. She continues to thrive and motivate others. She is involved as a player and umpire at the Goolwa Netball Club, as well as the SASSTA Aboriginal Sports Academy at Victor Harbor High School. /On Tuesday June 19th, students enrolled in the VHHS Special Education Sub School (SESS) were lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience with Radicool Reptiles. This visit not only provided an exciting learning opportunity, but also gave children the chance to practice regulating their emotions, showing empathy, and demonstrating courage whilst overcoming their fears. A big thank you goes out to SESS student Maiah and her family who won the experience through a Facebook competition!
